Charcoal is a form of carbon that has been used in many cultures as a detoxifying agent and also as a source of fuel. Lighting charcoal on a hookah head is the most efficient and common way to heat molasses/shisha in the bowl. This method has been used for centuries. But now people have many options to buy different kinds of hookah charcoal. Generally hookah lovers like 2 types of hookah charcoal. No matter what charcoal you use, remember to leave your coals on the corner of the clay bowl and not directly on top. Also, rotate coals every 5–10 minutes a bit to the left or right so heat spreads evenly.

The Pro and Cons of Natural Charcoals

Pros

· Due to the lack of chemical accelerants, they keep remain hot longer than instant light charcoal. Each coals burns for around 45–60 minutes.

· Natural coals burn at a higher heat than instant light charcoal.

· Zero chemicals are used in Natural charcoal, so you can get ultimate taste of your flavor.

· Since natural coals are denser than instant light charcoals, there is less ash and the ash produced is less powdery making less mess during the session.

Cons

· To heat natural charcoals, you will need some type of Electric Coil Heater. Lighter will not do the trick.

· At 5–10 minutes per coal, it takes a bit longer to light natural coals.

The Pro and Cons of Instant light charcoals

Pros

· Instant charcoals light within a few seconds. A torch lighter is recommended.

· When your coal is over, you don’t need to wait. It’s quick and easy to light up another one and replace it

Cons

· Due to the chemicals used to make instant light charcoal, you can get awesome and unique range of flavors that are currently available.

· The accelerants used not only make them light quicker but also lose their heat quicker forcing you to light a new coal in 20–30 minutes.
